Since the original 4400 mAh battery gives around 2 hrs juice for the poor little EeePC, I’ve decided to get a high capacity 3rd party replacement battery. Luckily there are plenty of options, furthermore even in Hungary there is a local shop, Speedshop.hu, which provides both black and white ones…

It is a 7800 mAh battery, so I expect to get around 4 hrs time out of it (only if my wind should have this type of battery…).

After opening the case I realised that it is a Mugen battery, which has plenty of feedback already on the eeeuser.com forum. They report a bit over 4 hrs usage, and I would be very happy to achieve something similar…
While I still charge it (recommended to charge the first time for 10 long hours), can not wait to unplug and start testing it…

Update: The little bugger worked for a bit over 4 hrs, with wifi on and mainly surfing the web (casual usage) not bad after the first charge, so it seems (or better to say seeems) as a good purchase.

interesting, that looking at the battery from the Linux consol, it reports as a 5200 mAh battery

UPDATE (10.09.2008): Still going strong… over 4 hrs…

A new challenger arrived to my doorstep… an MSI Wind, which is a beautifuly designed tiny netbook build around the new Intel Atom processor.

It has impressive specs:

- Intel Atom N270 cpu

- 8.9″ Wide Screen Display

- Big-Size (well, bigger that the one on the 900) Keyboard and Touch Pad

- Hard Drive (80 GB)

- Webcam, Wifi (802.11b/g), and Bluetooth

Apart from the OS (Windows) it offers everything whatever I need, but the two most important ones… connectivity (wifi and BT) and a hard drive.

Unfortunatelly it came presinstalled with MS XP, but shortly after unpacking and charging Kubuntu was blinking from the screen happily…

There is comprehensive info about installing (K)ubuntu on the Wind, MSI Wind Wiki.

In general, the MSIWind.net offers similar content, information, knowledge base, forum, etc for the MSI Wind netbook… as the eeeuser.com for the EeePC.

The only real downside of this little machine is the 3 cell battery, which gives around 2 hours power on the road… according to information from MSI, a 6 cell one is on the way.
